WHERE

Valhalla, Keelby, Lincolnshire

Veterans are invited to join us once a month, free of charge, for a day of outdoor activities a meal and friendly supportive chat. We can help identify solutions to practical or financial problems as well as simply providing a day away from the stresses of everyday life.

Eligible veterans are those who may be experiencing difficulties with mental health, self-esteem, isolation or loneliness, substance use, or transitioning into civilian life.

For those who may not feel ready or able to attend an event in person we can provide some elements of our support via phone, video calls, email or messages.

We would welcome anyone who is interested to contact us through the contact form or our Facebook page.

Your enquiry will be picked up by a member of our team and followed up with an informal call to discuss your needs and arrange the next steps towards joining the Valkyrie family.

Valkyrie reaches out to Armed Forces Veterans who may be struggling with mental health conditions, alcohol and drug addiction or transition to civilian life.

Being able to share problems, difficulties and fears in the company of peers who have walked in the same boots and lived and experienced the same lifestyle is an empowering process. This environment enables others within the group to offer suggestions and coping strategies that have worked for them.

Through attendance at our events, veterans will be provided with support to address their identified needs and to overcome barriers to transition into civilian life and accessing civilian support services in the longer term.

The mixed composition of our team reinforces this, bringing both veteran and civilian team members together to deliver elements of support based on the best expertise.

Feedback from those who have attended our events has shown that attendance can improve individuals' wellbeing and resilience and reduce the risk of their health or circumstances deteriorating.

Our team are able to offer support with practical issues such as accommodation, finances and training through our link with our local Royal British Legion branch.

Our respite and recovery events are always free to attend and include axe throwing and archery workshops with wellbeing support available at all times.

A short testimonial sent in by one of our veterans:

After struggling with my mental health for the past 7 years, getting in trouble with the Police, getting into debt, losing my job and considering suicide to the point I was sat on the railway bridge waiting for a train to come, I reached out for help.

I was put onto a counselling program which I’ve been with for the past 3 years.

I came across Valkyrie Wilderness Workshops on Facebook, what they stood for really resonated with me and I made contact. I was invited to one of their Veterans Retreats.

Following that first camp I was told by my therapist that I’ve taken over 6 months off my recovery program due to the time with the Valkyrie Team.

Valkyrie has given me the courage, confidence, and inspiration from fellow Veterans at the camp to embrace my therapy and take control of my mind once more.

Team Valkyrie and the fellow Veterans accepted me without judgement, remark or bias. They made me realise I’m not worthless or less of a man for going through what I have.

Team Valkyrie are grateful to the Veterans' Foundation for making a grant towards the cost of our Veterans events.

The Veterans' Foundation has been set up to help fund charities and other charitable organisations that are helping serving and former members of the Armed Forces, and their dependants, who are in need.

The Veterans' Foundation raises its money through the Veterans’ Lottery and donations. Since inception in July 2016, it has given over £10 million through almost 600 grants to over 300 unique organisations, many of them small to medium-sized and very worthwhile charities, which are helping members of the Armed Forces community who are in need.

Forecasts indicate the Veterans’ Foundation will make grants totaling £4.4 million this financial year. The charities and other organisations we have helped include those tackling the challenges of mental and physical injuries, homelessness, unemployment, children’s loss of parents while serving and remembrance.
